For those people who do not read my site (Everybody). I have not been updating this because well it is alot of work. Also because real life has stepped in and any extra time I have had has went straight to video games leaving this little corner of the Interwebs closed from the masses.
But there were a few things I wanted to pop in here and say. First on the 'Poker is Rigged' front. There was a great article on MSNBC about the recent hackign of Ultimate Bet. The hack allowed players to see other players hole cards and this happen for up to three years!
UB also much like Full Tilt played the denial card as long as possible before admitting that yes cheating was taking place.
So for the love of God people get your money out of there. Almost all the sites run though the Kawhakee Tribe so don't believe this is at all an isolated incident.
But anyways back to my post about Chrisitans in the supermarket.
A little backstory on me, I work as a Merchandiser. A Merchandiser's basic job is to put product on the shelf for customers. Much like a stock boy only a Merchandiser also puts up displays and usually only deals with a few products such as Pop or Chips.
Anyways my job is 7 days a week but only a handful of hours a day. And of course this means Sundays.
Now I live in a small town of 30,000 in the Midwest where the people are religious but also good hearted. Real salt of the Earth people. But in our town there is of course the 'Catholic Grocery Store', the 'Methodist Grocery Store' etc. etc.
The specific 'Catholic Grocery Store' I usually do not work and the guy that does never takes a day off. Well this last Sunday he took the day off.
So I went in and was doing my job when a very unusual thing happen. Four different random strangers came up to me and said something to the effect of 'Your company makes you work on Sundays?'
There was also a weird inflection in that questions. Part anguish that my company was making more work on Sunday, part Sympathy for me because I was *gasp* working on a Sunday, and last it was a genuine question.
I usually answered with a simple 'Yep'
But then I got to thinking what exactly was I or my company for that matter doing wrong?
Now I know the Ten Commandments which states
'Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy' and the real reason they are worried...
'But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work'
I was certainly not Devil Worshipping or anything Blasphemous I was filling a shelf. By all technicalities I was 'working' but putting product on a shelf is a worlds away from farming and ranching (I know this as I grew up on a ranch)
I also hated the passive agressiveness in the question. It was a big reason I dislike modern Christians. It was a question meant to remind me that they believed me and my company were sinning.
Now if one of them would of said 'You know it is a sin to work on a Sunday' They would of had to deal with me either calling them on it by saying somethign to effect of. How is in different in that I am here on a Sunday putting product on a shelf with you coming in on Sunday and taking it off?
Or they would of at least had to openly admit their faith. But instead they passive agressively ask me that question. I beleive in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I believe Christ was born of a virgin birth, crucified dead and buried and then rose from the dead.
But would he be upset that I was working on a Sunday? When I merchandise I do not believe it is work. How would Moses interpret me working in a AC building, with my electric pallet jack? Would he consider that work?
What about people who shop there. Many shoppers would say it is 'work'. Are they sinning?
None the less, I was taken back by the people coming up to me. I am happy that they showed an interest but to passive agressively hint that somebody is sinning is..well weird. Instead of explaining why they are worried by explaining the Ten Commandments (If I wasn't raised a Methodist I would not of been able to infer what they were getting at) or genuinely trying to educate me. They just ask their little passive agressive question and move on.
Maybe I should just look at it like that but really if you are worried that someone doesn't know they are sinning talk to them. Otherwise respect their views and move on.
